Sara Martinez de Osaba

Sara is the founder and Director of the Vermont Multicultural Alliance for Democracy; a VT nonprofit created by grassroots community leaders from various ethnic minority groups with the goal to increase racial and ethnic equity in all democratic forums.

In 2008, Sara received the Outstanding Community Member Recognition award presented by Burlington Educator’s Association.

Recently, Sara was awarded the 2010 Herb Blumenthal Award presented by the Mayor; a fitting recognition of her advocacy for multi cultural and diversity issues and her unconditional commitment to social justice by promoting multicultural awareness and strongly advocating for underserved families.

Sara is a graduate from the University of California at Berkeley with a major in Political Economy of Industrial Societies with a minor in Spanish Literature.

The City Green Teams Offers New Program to Commuters!

The Burlington Sustainability Action Team (the City's green team) has launched an alternative commute pilot program for downtown city staff. This collaborative effort -- involving CarShare VT, CCTA, and CATMA -- encourages and supports city workers to drive less, and help reduce traffic and air pollution, while saving money on car maintenance and gas.

At a press conference in late June the new compressed natural gas (CNG) recycling truck was unveiled by Mayor Kiss, DPW Staff and President of J&B International of Colchester , the supplier. The purchase price of the CNG is higher than a standard diesel, but the environmental and human health benefits include lower greenhouse gas emissions, less air pollution, quieter operation and a truck powered by CNG with fuel costs less than diesel. This is the first CNG recycling truck in Vermont.
