CELEBRATE BURLINGTON 2011 WAS A SUCCESS!

The event — a culmination of Neighborhood Night of Success and the Legacy Town Meeting — honored the dozens of residents who volunteer their time to serve on a city board or commission. Over one hundred community members came to Memorial Auditorium to put ideas onto paper. Click here to see the agenda for the evening.

Yacouba Jacob Bogre is the recipient of this year’s Peter Clavelle Award for his work with the Association of Africans Living in Vermont and Jon Greisser is the recipient of the Herb Bloomenthall Award for Community Activism for his work on the Old North End bike path entrance.

BURLINGTON IS A FINALIST FOR SIEMEN’S SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY AWARD

Burlington is a small-city finalist for the Siemen’s Sustainable Community Awards. Winners will receive $20,000 worth of trees to plant in their community. Burlington’s nomination touted the Legacy Project and our unique Burlington Legacy Action Plan.

BURLINGTON RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY!

The city of Burlington announced that it has received the 2nd annual Home Depot Foundation Award of “Excellence for Sustainable Community Development,” in partnership with the Champlain Housing Trust. The award recognizes cities that are incorporating real-world sustainability initiatives focused on efficient use of municipal budget funds while increasing the livability of the community for all residents.
Burlington won the “small city” award, and Mayor Kiss explains that, “the Legacy Project’s long-term vision for the city, combined with the mission of the Champlain Housing Trust and the model of the Burlington Co-Housing project, underpin this exceptional recognition. Congratulations to Burlington!”
